Patent advice |

Are you thinking of patenting something? Have you been told by a lawyer that you can't patent software? Do you know why you might want a patent? Do you just want some help about patents? Have you been accused of infringing a patent? |

TJJ is a UK-based consultancy company providing specialist advice about patents. We work in conjunction with patent agents and patent lawyers, often acting as an interface between non-technical and expensive legal advisors and technical companies. Our senior technical advisor Dr Tim King is well known as an expert in software Intellectual Property. | |||
Much of our
work recently has been in the area of software patents, mainly due to
the explosive rise in the number of such patents granted in the US and now
in Europe. General lawyers can give incorrect advice about patents, often stating that it's impossible to patent software. It is true that you can't patent a software implementation of an existing process, but it's perfectly possible to patent an algorithm which is implemenented in software, as well a computer system running the software that implements something - such as checking email for spam in various ways. |
